Tai Chi with Susan Bird
Saturday 20th May - Saturday 27th May 2023
Join Susan for a wonderful week of T'ai Chi in the magnificent mountains of the Sierra Nevada. The week includes guided walks and local visits such as to the village olive mill and Lola's weaving workshop and an optional visit to Granada and the Alhambra Palaces. Delicious, nutritious meals using local organic products and traditional recipes will be served at the Las Chimeneas own restaurant.
Chi is made from the air we breathe, the food we eat and can be gathered through the practice of T’ai Chi in nature.
The T'ai Chi classes are held both in the outdoor shala which nestles in olive groves, overlooking the mountains or in the newly built village Shala with wide open views and state of the art equipment. There will be two sessions daily, one in the morning before breakfast when we will warm up and practice some K’ai Men and Tao Yin breathing exercises to gather the morning’s energy, followed by the traditional T’ai Chi form. After breakfast there will be plenty of time to explore the area. Before supper, early in the evening, we will meditate before we practice our form gathering in the dusk's energy. The course is suitable for all levels and is a wonderful opportunity to reboot our energy through the practice of T’ai Chi.
Susan Bird is the East west Taoist Associations Regional Coach for Cleveland and Scotland and is Area coach for the North East where she resides with her family. With over 31 years of experience practicing Tai Chi and Feng Shou (kung Fu) she is one of Grand Master Howard Gibbon’s longest serving students. Susan teaches weekly classes and holds training days locally and nationally. Here she explains what T'ai Chi means to her and how enthused she is about coming to the mountains to offer her first retreat at Las Chimeneas!
From the very first moment I stepped into a class, the group was friendly and welcoming, their energy gentle and uplifting, the discipline light and heartfelt. The feeling of peacefulness was profound and yet these people had a humility that was refreshing. I knew then that T’ai Chi was something I wanted to explore and have never looked back. Today it is an absolute honour to continue to train with and pass on the knowledge shared by our Master Howard. When Howard asked if I would run a course in the Alpujurra mountains, I jumped at the chance. I thought “What a wonderful opportunity to practice T’ai chi surrounded by beautiful mountains, eat freshly made organic food grown on the hosts farm and breathe in the fresh mountain air. It will be total Chi tonic”
