Seville, Cordoba, Granada & Mountains.

Thursday 10th March - Saturday 19th March 2022

It’s still easy to see why Cordoba was known to the early Europeans as “The Ornament of the World”, and it would be hard to argue against the inclusion of Granada and the Alhambra on any major list of World heritage sites.  And Seville ? I’d better whisper it in these parts, but the old lady is still perhaps the grandest,  the most romantic city in Spain, or indeed,  perhaps anywhere.

Over the last few years we’ve come to know these three gems inside out, and now have a list of all the best hotels, restaurants and tapas bars which we think will appeal to our guests.   There’s no denying that it’s an absolute treat for us to visit them each year, and nor is there any great hardship in our constant re-testing of the wine and gastronomic scene…… all in the name of Quality Control, obviously.

We plan to begin in Seville, and meet at a lovely 4-star hotel at the heart of the mediaeval centre.  (Seville airport is now well served from the UK, or you can fly to Malaga airport, from which we can arrange a shared 8 seater taxi) .  We spend 2 nights in Seville, and see the great sites of the Cathedral and the Royal Palaces,   before a leisurely boat trip to examine the city from the river Guadalquivir.   We can’t meanwhile go all that way without seeing a flamenco show,  or the bullring,  so we’ll do these too, before dinner in an upmarket tapas restaurant.

Next day we set off for Cordoba, where we spend a night in an equally lovely 4 star hotel, and see the major sites: the great Mosque will still blow your socks off ( it’s the one with the Cathedral inside (!) the mosque) and the gardens of the Alcazar will set you to dreaming of the Arabian nights.  Dinner that night is in a sensational restaurant not far from the hotel –  a real foodie’s delight.

After this we move South across the plains of the so-called subbetica, to visit Granada.  We know that many of you may well have visited here before,  but there’s more to the city than just the Alhambra, so we’ll take you on a tour of the backstreets of the old town to glimpse some of the less touristy jewels that are on offer if you know where to look.  Here we stay for the night in another 4-star hotel just in front of the Alhambra.

Next day we move on for 4 nights in Mairena at Las Chimeneas.    The first day will be a free day to recover from the exertions of so much city life, followed by two guided walks around the alpujarras – newly discovered walks for us,   which we hope will be unfamiliar to you.

Price is 1150 euros per person.    This includes all transfers between the cities, and a single timed transfer to Granada at the end of your holiday.  It also includes full board in Mairena, and accommodation, breakfast and dinners in the 3 cities.    It does not include drinks, nor museum entrances.  Please note that there is a supplement for single travellers of 240 euros.
