Painting with Sian Dudley (option to stay for extra days possible this year)

We are delighted to welcome Sian back to Las Chimeneas as our art tutor for the fourth year running. As well as being a superbly talented artist she is a gentle, curious and sensitive teacher (with a great sense of humour too!) THE PAINTING
In Sians's own words.... painting and sketching in this area is a dream. The area is beautiful, and there is no shortage of painterly opportunities. From wide open views to small corners full of local character there is plenty for you to choose from. Being on the side of a mountain gives rise to some unusual compositions: looking through a chimney pot to the hills beyond was unexpected, which hints at the steepness of some of the village streets!
Mairena itself is full of opportunities, and we will also be visiting locations in the surrounding area. The painting locations are chosen so that very little walking is required to find inspiring subject matter. All the facilities we might need will be close by...shade, water, refreshments, loos... David and Emma will kindly organise transport to the painting locations, so that we can enjoy the views en route and take all we need with us. I have never been so comfortable painting en plein air!
Through demonstrations and sharing tips and techniques Siân will help you through your creative endeavours. Aspiring artists of all abilities are welcome. Whatever your starting point all Siân requires of you is enthusiasm and interest!
When en plein air Siân’s preference is to ‘gather information’ - sketches, photographs, colour notes ( swatches) and written notes, which are then used together to make paintings in the studio. (See examples of preliminary sketches in the gallery below). You may decided to work the same way, but if your preference is to use your time to make a sketch book diary of your holiday, or even complete a painting en plein air, Siân will be happy to assist.

Normally group pick up time is at 2pm from Malaga airport on arrival day and drop off at 12h for afternoon flights on departure day.
Spending an extra night in the vibrant city of Malaga is always a good option
Price includes:
- Airport transfer (single timed for group minibus) plus local transfers to painting locations
- Buffet breakfast, light lunch, three course evening meal
- Three activities - eg. olive oil mill visit with chat about local olive oil production, visit to ancient mosque/ church with talk on local history and overlapping cultures, short cookery class with our Chimeneas chef Conchi or visit to Lola’s weaving and spinning workshop (to be decided with group leaders)
- All tuition / use of studio, equipment etc
- Extra excursions can be booked and paid for locally eg massage, longer cookery classes, guided electric mountain bike tour, group guided visit to Almeria or Granada

Excluded: Flights, travel insurance. Please confirm you have your own adequate personal travel insurance. Massages. Alcohol and soft drinks. Transport for optional excursion to Granada (around 35 euros per trip depending on numbers)

Making your own way
By car: We are at Las Chimeneas, Calle Amargura 4, Mairena, 18494, Granada. Spain. 2.5 hrs from Malaga and Granada airports. 1.5 hrs from Almeria.
Cancellation Policy:
Deposits: All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Full Payments: For places paid in full and then cancelled the following applies:
- More than 10 weeks before the start of the retreat: 100% refund less the deposit.
- 10-6 weeks before the start of the retreat:50% refund less the deposit.
- Up to 6 weeks before the start of the retreat:No refund will be given.
IT IS ADVISABLE TO TAKE OUT TRAVEL INSURANCE IN THE EVENT THAT YOU HAVE TO CANCEL DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.
